About Us

Bosnian Islamic Association Gazi Husrev-Beg (BIAGH) was founded in November 1977 under the official name: Association of Islamic Community Gazi Husrev-Beg. It operates under its current name ever since 1995.

Primary reason of its foundation was to respond to the religious needs of its members. That was made possible through a full time Imam, who has been serving this community uninterruptedly since June 1982. The BIAGH never ignored the other needs of Bosniaks that pertain to Bosniak tradition, folklore, sport and different creative workshops.

Bosniaks of Toronto were able to provide their first masdzid in August 1984. As the needs of the dzemat grew stadily, particularly as consequence of the aggression on Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bosniaks purchased much larger property situated on the 2.13 acres of land in October 1995. The larger space offered new opportunities in terms of activities. In August 1996 Bosnian Islamic Association initiated an annual gathering of Bosniaks of North America, which has ever since been traditionally organized by different Bosniak communities. Foundation of the Congres of Bosniaks, the Bosniak umbrella organization, was also initiated by this dzemat.

Since it inauguration, the Bosnian Islamic Association Gazi Husrev-Beg has been offering classes and activities for men, women and children in Islamic education, national folklore, karate, soccer and different creativity workshops.

Regularly, Bosnian Islamic Association Gazi Husrev-Beg organizes major events such as Bosnian Community Fair, summer picnics, Islamic Conferences and a wide host of other social activities. The Bosnian Muslim community in the Greater Toronto Area often uses our facilities for celebrating Aqiqas and marriages.

On a daily basis, the Association's Imam and Volunteers offer counseling for families and individuals and provide assistance and support to different Muslim causes.
